“This is a #cry for #help. I just got my health insurance renewal in the mail. I do not qualify for any subsidies because I make too much in my low cost of living state to qualify for any help. (#seekingrelocation) My monthly premium is 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗯𝘆 𝟯𝟱%. For one person in a single income household, my monthly premiums (for a worse plan then I have now) will be 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 $𝟴𝟬𝟬. Oh, and 𝗺𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 $𝟵𝟱𝟬 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵. You read that right. $950 a month. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘢 𝘙𝘌𝘋𝘜𝘊𝘌𝘋 𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘱𝘢𝘺𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯, 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 1400 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘩. I have been trying and failing to get a new job for the last two years. I’ve gone over the numbers and there’s literally nowhere else I can trim my budget. In order to save on rapidly escalating housing costs, I left my entire life and friends and moved from a high cost-of-living area to a low-cost-of-living area. It was a necessary sacrifice and meant to be temporary. But things only got worse with inflation. I’ve cut subscriptions, I’ve reduced my food intake to save on groceries, I cook every single meal, I do not eat out or order delivery. I don’t even buy pre-cut fruits or vegetables, simply cause it’s an up charge I can’t afford. I barely have a social life and never go out in order to save money. The last vacation I had was 4 years ago. A few years ago, I had a decent life financially. Maybe even good? I had enough each month to pay my bills and put money aside for savings and emergencies. I even paid for my dog’s cataract surgery without worrying about the cost! Now, I’m worried about how I’m going to afford my own medicine in January. I’m driving a car with a cracked windshield, broken AC, broken clock, broken radio, broken windshield wiper fluid tank, and no automatic locks. They broke, too.”
