Once more, we’ve had a busy week on the web. Trump and his minions have provided us with no end of reports to follow…and be appalled by. Particularly compelling have been the endless stories arising from the separation of children from their parents at the border. Among the stories we’re following on this topic are:

AP has revealed that “Immigrant children as young as 14 housed at a juvenile detention center in Virginia say they were beaten while handcuffed and locked up for long periods in solitary confinement, left nude and shivering in concrete cells.” All part of 45’s Zero Tolerance policy. Damn him.

Or here’s something interesting. The Zero Tolerance Policy was supposed to reduce the costs and risks associated with illegal immigrants. In fact, it may cost us “bigley” as all the new cases move into court. The Hill, for instance, is reporting that so great is the strain that “The Department of Justice (DOJ) has reportedly asked the Pentagon to provide military lawyers to help prosecute illegal immigration cases along the southern border.” Way to go, fiscal conservatives.

Powerful article over on Salon’s website coming out of the immigrant crisis. It’s long past time to compare Donald Trump and the Nazis by Lucian K. Truscott IV. In it, Truscott says that when Trump and Sessions started putting children in concentration camps, they instantly qualified as Hitler’s successors.

And here is something grimly amusing. American Airlines has politely but firmly requested that the Government not use its planes to transport migrant children on their way to prison camp. Apparently the request came after a flight attendant saw  “’16 scared little souls” [being]… shipped from Phoenix to Miami ‘dressed as criminals…”‘

Isn’t it funny how sometimes popular culture provides just the right metaphor for the age? Mashable is reporting that Everyone is comparing Trump’s border policy to ‘Handmaid’s Tale,’ even the creator [i.e., Margaret Atwood]. Seems that the horrific scenes of children being taken from their parents in the TV version of the book look an awful lot like what Trump/Sessions et al are doing at the border.

Meanwhile, on the remote chance that you need still more confirmation that Trump’s minions are jackbooted thugs and greasy little sadists (even when they wear Gucci), ABC among other news outlets is reporting that Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski responded to reports of a girl with Down syndrome being separated from her mother with “womp, womp”—which apparently was an attempt at sarcasm. Biting wit doesn’t seem to be Lewandowski’s strong suit.

And last but surely not least, even Michael Cohen — Trump’s lawyer/fixer — has objected to Trump’s policy of locking up children. He has quit his position with the RNC saying that he could not support a government that was treating immigrants the way his Jewish parents were treated by the Nazis. Amazing. Of course, there is also some speculation that Cohen is about to flip and co-operate with the FBI, so maybe that’s part of it too.

In any case, when even somebody like Cohen says you’re scum, you’re in serious trouble.
