As always, with Trump in the White House, and a corrupt GOP running Congress, there’s no shortage of interesting and/or chilling stories to read on the web. This week we’re watching:

There’s a scary piece over on the BBC website, Why local US newspapers are sounding the alarm by Taylor Kate Brown. Local papers are closing at a rapid rate all over the nation. That’s very bad because they were the only way that many important local news stories got to their readers. Economics and politics seem to be to blame. Criminals and kleptocrats like it when people don’t know what’s going on.

Meanwhile, for something a bit more entertaining, check out How Conservative Trolls Lost Their Mojo, by Lili Loofbourow on Slate. It seems that some of the (formerly) hottest Alt.Right trolls are cooling down fast. Their postings don’t have the bite they once had. What’s the problem? Their guy is in the White House. You can’t be quite so critical of the government if you are the government. Darn. Our hearts bleed for ’em.

Speaking of entertaining, here is something that’s quite funny. And veddy British. Vox is reporting that prior to Der Drump’s visit to the UK, “Protesters who oppose Trump and his policies started a campaign to get people in the UK to buy and stream the Green Day song ‘American Idiot,’ so that when Trump lands … the song will be at the top of the music charts.” Love it!

Remember that old saw, “If you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention?” Well here’s proof of that. Splinter writes that a pair of grandparents, legally in the US, went to visit their son-in-law, who is in the Army and about to be shipped off to Afghanistan. But, when they went to see him at Ft. Drum, they got arrested by Immigrant Agents and may be deported. Lovely.

Meanwhile, RawStory is reporting that Donald Trump’s “personal chauffeur is suing him. Noel Cintron, who has served the real estate mogul for 25 years, has filed suit against Trump claiming thousands of hours of unpaid overtime. He also says Trump eliminated his health insurance.” Don’t pretend you didn’t see this coming, folks.

Did you know that somes state prohibit atheists from holding public office? A bunch of them do, including Arkansas, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Now, says the New York Times, atheists and their civil libertarian allies are working to end that fact. Known as the “Openly Secular Coalition,” the group is challenging state laws all over the country. Good for them!

And, finally, have you ever wondered just how corrupt the Trump Administration really is? Well, here’s a clue. Vox is reporting that at least some members of Trump’s expensive Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, are getting rides on Air Force One as a perk.

Yes, folks, the tax-payer funded president’s plane just got turned into a real estate time share sales gimmick.
