President Trump has a new “zero tolerance policy” for migrants crossing the border for shelter in the United States.

Siting quotations from the bible, “Attorney General Jeff Sessions, in a speech to police officers in Fort Wayne, Ind., cited Romans 13, imploring his “church friends” to remember the Bible passage that directs the faithful to obey the laws of the government” (USA Today). Sessions went on to say that this new zero tolerance policy isn’t actually being mean to children even though it recently involved ripping children out of their parent’s hands and arresting the parents.

This has gone on further now in that Trump has authorized the building of a “tent city” outside El Paso, Texas in Tornillo. “Children will begin arriving in the next few days, according to the Department of Health and Human Services, which is responsible for their care. The site will have 360 beds, according to HHS officials, with the potential to add more. The Tornillo site will be the only location, to date, where HHS plans to put children in tents, or what the agency calls semi-permanent structures” (Washington Post).

The resemblance to concentration camps is very high here although the idea of a tent and cage city for children doesn’t meet the technical definition of a concentration camp, it’s pretty disturbing to see. The idea of forcibly breaking up families is abhorrent to most of us, especially the idea of ripping children from the arms of their parents who came here looking for asylum from the gang violence that’s plaguing their areas in Mexico.

What happened to the USA that’s an immigration melting pot? The USA that wants to help people of the world? The Trump Concentration Camp is one of the saddest things I’ve seen in a while. I’m ashamed that it’s coming from my home.
