So whatever happened to Anastasia Vashukevich? You will remember her. She’s the Belarusian woman who was arrested in Thailand with her “trainer,” Alex Lesley, and claimed to have recordings of Oleg V. Deripaska, a Russian oligarch who was also a long-term associate of Paul Manafort, chatting with his friends about ways to influence the American elections.

Last we saw the two of them, they were sitting in a Thai jail on various charges and offering their recordings to anyone who could help get them out. Well, that’s where they still are. And things don’t seem to be changing in a hurry.

The New York Times has reported that the pair has now been charged with “soliciting prostitution and conspiracy” by the Thai authorities. No one is saying, though, exactly what the conspiracy was supposed to have been.

The two were in Thailand to give a seminar to Thai women on how to seduce wealthy foreigners, mostly Russians. This was after they had cheerfully revealed to the world via Youtube and other sources that Deripaska had slept with Vashukevich and that he’d had discussions about the American election with other oligarchs… and possibly some people who spoke English. Apparently, Vashukevich and Lesley thought they could speak completely freely.

They seem to have been very wrong. The question, though, is why are they still in jail in Thailand? It would seem that certain people would much prefer to have them at home in Russia, where they could quietly disappear some night. It would also seem likely that certain FBI agents would very much like to have them in the good ole U.S. of A., where they would have an intimate little chat. And last, it would seem possible that certain occupants of the White House would like them to be…nowhere, speaking neither to Russians, nor the Press, nor the FBI, nor anyone else.

Maybe the only reason they are still among us is that no one can decide who’s got first dibbs on ‘em.
