Okay, everybody. Stand ready. We know the Drumpf is planning something. The question is what and when. Is he going to fire Robert Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein or who? And what do we do about it?

The Week, among many other publications, is now saying that Trump wants very badly to fire one or both men to stop the investigation of his malfeasance. Catherine Garcia notes, “After he heard about the raid targeting Michael Cohen, executed by the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York, Trump declared that it was a ruse and said he believed Special Counsel Robert Mueller was actually behind it…Trump has complained that top officials at the Justice Department are not doing enough to protect him during Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, which Rosenstein oversees. Two officials said the raid might be the tipping point that pushes him to act, and if he’s going to actually fire anyone, it would probably be Rosenstein.”

But if he does, what do we do about it? Clearly, such a move would a) signal his guilt to all and sundry, and b) institute an immediate constitutional crisis in the country. But, given the GOP dominance of Congress, it is hard to see the Legislative branch of government stepping in to fix matters. It is, of course, true that the streets would instantly fill with protesters, but let’s face it, the White House, the GOP, and the Plutocrats haven’t cared about protests in the past and won’t care now.

So, it might well be (and here being an extreme) pessimist, nothing would happen. We’d just lose the best chance of getting rid of Trump that we’ve had since he entered office. We’d be basically back right where we started.

Or would we? If Trump does fire either man, or otherwise stops the investigation against him, he will further infuriate the liberal and moderate components of the electorate. Which means that Democrats and anti-Trump independents might have the “passion” advantage when the 2018 elections come up. More of them, in other words, might show up at the polls than would Republicans.

Which means there just might be a Blue House Of Representatives…

Which, in turn, would mean…

Best leave that to the imagination.
